Cabeólica marks ten years of operation in Cape Verde with international conference
Praia, Mar 22 (Inforpress) – The company Cabeólica, S.A. promotes this Wednesday, in Praia, an international conference entitled “Experience acquired in ten years of PPP models and project finance in the energy sector in Cape Verde and in the African continent”.
The event, according to a press release from the institution, is included in the commemorative program of its ten years of operation in the country.
Cabeólica, explains the same source, is the result of a PPP (Public Private Partnership) between the State of Cape Verde, Electra, S.A., and foreign investors, currently the África Finance Corporation (Financial Development Institution, of which the State of Cape Verde is also a member) and AP Moller Capital, belonging to the AP Moller Group (MAERSK), a world leader in maritime logistics/transport.
Funders are the European Investment Bank and the African Development Bank.
“Cabeólica is a company also committed to the socio-economic development of Cape Verde, a pioneer in Sub-Saharan Africa as a large-scale PPP in the renewable energy sector and a pioneer in the production of electricity for the national grid under the regime of independent producer, using wind energy, non-polluting and renewable, says the statement.
In these first ten years of operation, he indicated, he always invested in a sustainable alternative and reinforced the country's energy supply, through the production of around 700 GWh of clean energy.
“With this, it contributed, on the one hand, to reducing the emission of around 5,120,490 tons of polluting gases and, on the other hand, to some autonomy for the archipelago in energy production and, consequently, to the reduction of fuel imports. fossil fuels and a decrease in the country's vulnerability”, stressed the same source.
It is assumed to be responsible for almost 20% of the electricity consumed in Cape Verde, thus contributing to making Cape Verde a benchmark for the sector in this region.
The conference alluding to its ten years of existence will take place at 3:00 pm, in the BAI conference room, in Chã de Areia, with the opening act being given by the Secretary of State for Finance, Alcindo Mota, and the closing act chaired by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Energy, Alexandre Monteiro.
