The Sal Island wind farm has been functioning officially since 2012. However, it started injecting energy into the grid since November 2011 (test phase). It was inaugurated on February 28, 2012.
It is located in the eastern part of the island, in the Lajedo de Ribeira de Tarrafe region, occupying about 32 hectares of land and containing 9 turbines, representing a total installed capacity of 7.65 MW.
The maximum daily capacity of the park is 183.6 MWh.
In January 2015 it broke the national record for monthly grid penetration of wind power, contributing 55% of the total electricity consumed on the island. On June 26, 2019, it reached its daily generation record of 99 MWh.
