Named one of the Best Public-Private Partnerships in Sub-Saharan Africa<\/h4>\n

Cape Verde is once again in the news on the international scene for the best reasons: among several other entities, Cabe\u00f3lica was distinguished as one of the best public-private partnerships in sub-Saharan Africa.<\/p>\n

The distinction was awarded by the IFC \u2013 International Finance Corporatarion (an organization belonging to the World Bank) and by the IJ \u2013 Infrastructure Journal in their assessment of the best PPPs \u2013 Public-Private Partnerships in the world in emerging markets.<\/p>\n

In the selection of PPPs, the entities evaluated a wide range of criteria ranging from resources, to financial and technological innovation, to the impact on the structural development of the countries and the replicability of the projects in other regions. What contributed to Cabeolica being among the best projects in 4 different regions of the world was its success in the implementation of 4 wind farms, with a production of 61.6 million kWh in 2012, representing an estimated saving of 20 million liters of diesel and fuel that year. The numbers are impressive: in 3 years the country goes from less than 2% of installed capacity through renewable sources to 25% with the entry of Cabe\u00f3lica.<\/p>\n

With an estimated investment of around 60 million euros, 45 million of which from Development Banks, and having VESTAS as a strategic supplier\/installer, an internationally recognized player, Cabeolica has been able to fulfill its mission of contributing to the Cape Verde's environmental sustainability through clean energy production.<\/h4>\n

In 2011, Cabeolica had already been distinguished, at the Africa Energy Awards event, in Johannesburg, with the prize for Best Renewable Energy Project in Africa \u2013 Best Renewable Project in Africa Award.<\/p>\n

The IFC and the IJ annually classify dozens of PPPs of public services, which produced a great impact in a certain region of the world, including areas as diverse as infrastructure, education and health. These entities intend to value these partnerships and emphasize their importance when projects require high funding for the sustained development of certain structural services that boost growth and technological innovation in countries.<\/p>\n
